Deborah Zies is an Assistant Professor of Biology. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Florida in 2003 for her studies on the molecular characterization of an ion transporter expressed in the kidney. Before coming to UMW in 2006, Dr. Zies worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Mayo Clinic Center for Basic Cancer Research. Her project was focused on the hormonal regulation of genes associated with colon cancer. Dr. Zies’ current research interest is in the regulation of genes associated with genetic disorders. Deborah teaches Biological Concepts (BIOL 121) and General Genetics (BIOL 341).
